PCMA Canada West kicked off their new networking series, Cold Drinks, Hot Topics last month. The first event in the series took place on March 6th at the Showcase Lounge at the Marriott Pinnacle Hotel, and brought together a passionate group of event professionals to discuss a hot topic in the events industry.

The first topic up for discussion was the influencer-led disaster, Fyre Festival. Nearly everyone in the room had watched the Netflix documentary chronicling the festival’s mis-planning and eventual demise, so it was easy to strike up a conversation with anyone in the room. 

Together in small groups, we discussed our takeaways from the documentary, and at the end of the event each group had a chance to share their thoughts with the entire room. As each group shared their takeaways new conversations were sparked. 

The hot topics featured at the event are hand picked by PCMA members, so you know that they will always be relevant to our industry. We’ll also be switching up the venue each month to keep you engaged!

Members are encouraged to invite their friends and colleagues (no PCMA membership required) to ensure there is always a fresh perspective in the room. At my table I was joined by three Event Professionals who were attending their first PCMA event! We had an excellent conversation, and I hope to see them back at future events.
